Biographical Information
"I expect to
pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I
can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me
do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this
way again"
--- William Penn
(1644-1718) English Quaker and founder of Pennsylvania
Let's
start at the beginning... My name is Jeffrey D. Stark, though many know
me under the name Lord Jeff. I have scanned in a few pictures
of me.
I joined the electronic community back in 1984 when I got my
hands on a 300 baud acoustic coupling manual dial modem. This
strange little blue box, had a cradle that you placed the handset
into, after you'd dialed the # manually with a telephone. I think
my first few minutes of exploration set the trend for the next 10
years of my life.
In 1986, a young teen was told that there was no way he could set up a BBS.
He neither had the skill, knowledge or modem needed to run one. On July 16th,
1986; a small electronic bulletin board system called The Cult [Later renamed
The Land Of The Cult BBs] first opened
it's doors to the public.
I have only ever had one idol in my life. Someone who I both
looked up to and desired to be. Josh Mayhew was one of the most
interesting people I've ever met and he let a very fascinating
life. Josh was a very technical person, with a phenomenal amount
of knowledge about computers. I think I really started getting
into computers because of Josh.
The BBS [Electronic Bulletin Board System] was the starting point
for most of my life to come. I have been a member of the
electronic community for over 10 yrs now, and I can honestly say
I do not regret it in the least. Most of you probably don't know what a bbs is, unless you've heard the name in some sort of historical context. BBS = Bulletin Board System; a computer left open for users to dial in at will, giving a one-on-one connection. on a bbs you felt part of something, actually part of a community. internet tries to get that back with irc channels, newsgroups and other forms of chat and message boards; but it's never replicated it.
Imagine just one thing that combined ftp, irc, mail, muds, and (sort of) the web. that's a rough idea of what BBSs had to offer - message areas, files, user chat, door games, "graffiti wall" message boards, and chat with the sysop - imagine if you could hit a button on a web site and page the author. with a bbs you could (usually). the bbs was sitting on someone's desk, in their house. you'd hit "page sysop" and the computer would make a noise or display a message to alert the sysop. if they felt like it, they'd talk to you. vaguely like MSN or ICQ.
So on to my present life, firstly, how I see myself. I view
myself as being a strongly creative individual, able to handle
high stress situations, having developed a strong set of problems
solving skills. Possessing a strong inner code of values, I see
myself as a motivated and dedicated individual. My free time is
occupied by a diverse range of interests including being an
accomplished amateur poet, a skilled digital composer and the
operator of a rather unique Electronic Bulletin Board System.
My basic philosophy is that the key to accomplishment in one's
life is through versatility and flexibility. I very much view
myself as a true example of a generalist and this philosophy is
reflected in how diverse and multifaceted my business, personal
knowledge and experience are. Skilled in not just one field but
having a strong working knowledge of all levels of the computer
profession. At any given time I could find myself doing Business
Applications Quality Assurance, Computer Assembly and Servicing,
Internet, Network Management, Telecommunication and Bulletin
Board Technology, System Support, Access Devices [equipment that
lets disabled people use computers], Programming, Training And
Instruction.

My Resume
To look through a mirror
- To laugh often and much; to win the respect of
intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn
the appreciation of honest critics and endure the
betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find
the best in others; to leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed
social condition; to know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
-
- For me, life is an exploration. An exploration of one's
environment, of the world around us, also and more
importantly of self.
I have always had a deep fascination with the wind. To
me, thereis no greater pleasure then sitting on a dark
evening, letting the wind blow through my hair as I look
out on the world around me or just close my eyes and
immerse myself. I have always had a love and affinity for
all things medieval and arcane. I have always enjoyed
reading, and have a most voracious apetite. I find myself
reading all genres from fantasy, to sci-fi, mystery, to
thriller. I do a lot of reading and research into many of
our planet's historical periods; finding myself
particularly fascinated with the celtic history, grecian
history and the victorian age; as well as, all the
mythology, beliefs, colour and lifestyles from those
periods.
One of my more prominent hobbies involves divination. I
am deeply into Astrology, Horoscopes, I-Chin, Tarot,
Runes and Numerology. I do publish a Monthy Horoscope for those who
are interested and do full natal zodiacs [20+ pages] for
people birthdays or other occasions. Wether or not I put
any faith into any of this, I most certainly recognise
the potential that is there for both self examination and
introspection. It severs simply as a guide on the first
steps of one path to self awareness.
I also do a great deal of writing in my free time; which
includes everything from stories, to articles, erotica,
to poetry. I have thus far had 3 poems and 2 short
stories published. I am currently in the process of
writing a fantasy novel; and as of this point have about
12 of the chapters finished.
